Home Economics Department

The Home Economics department focuses on the study of Foods, Clothing and management of home and community resources, encompassing areas such as nutrition, family dynamics, consumer education, and textile management. Its goal is to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance their quality of life, promote well-being, and foster sustainable practices within households and communities. Through education and practical application, the department aims to prepare students for responsible citizenship and effective management of personal and family resources. The subject also prepares students to work in fields such as catering, hotel management and entrepreneurship.

YEAR 9 & YEAR 10

Home Economics at junior level has 3 strands: Food and Nutrition , Clothing and Textiles and Home Management.

Students learn on basic cooking skills and sewing article to practise on sewing skills. Topics in Home managements include the family, management of resources and Housing. This prepares students to look into the resources around them.

PRACTICAL COMPONENT FOR YEAR 9 AND 10.

2 cooking practical – students learn to prepare breakfast for a teenager and lunch/dinner for family

2 cooking practicals where students learn to prepare meal for special needs.

Hand stitches – students learn on different types of stitches .

Article construction- students learn to use sewing machine and use embroidery stitches on articles.

YEAR 11- YEAR 13

Senior level Home Economics have 3 strands which are Food and Nutrition, Textiles and Home Management. The contents at Year 13 are on Food Commodity which includes physical and chemical property of commodities, and it also focuses on textiles topics such as designing, fabric properties .
